World of Sport Wrestling at Epic Studios
For those of you who haven’t heard, wrestling is returning to British TV, with Epic Studios in Norwich providing the much-loved sport’s new home. Production of a new 10-part series, commissioned by ITV Studios Entertainment, will be recorded at the Norwich-based television and entertainment centre in front of a live audience this week.
Owner of the studios, Jonathan Thursby, says:
“It’s incredible news for Norwich, not just for Epic TV and the staff here – who have worked incredibly hard to get this – but also Norwich in general, alongside British wrestling and Norwich TV production. ITV have shown faith in us, that we can pull off the biggest show that they are going to produce this year …and the biggest thing that Norwich has seen in television for 25 years!”
World of Sport wrestling was a weekend tradition on British TV from 1965-1985, watched by audiences of up to 18 million. Many will remember witnessing the likes of Giant haystacks and Big Daddy as they went head-to-head in the ring on Saturday afternoons gone by. Now, wrestling (recently described by former WWE star Jeff Jarrett as ‘Shakespeare to the Masses’) is coming back to ITV, complete with the UK’s best professional wrestlers from past and present, who will fight to take the WOS championship belt home at the end of each show.
ITV Studios Entertainment’s Creative Director Tom McLennan told reporters:
“There is a massive indie wrestling scene in the UK and a strong nostalgia for the wrestling shows of our youth…WOS Wrestling is going to be a programme for everyone who remembers watching it with their grandparents or parents from back in the day but also a whole new generation of wrestling fans and it’s really going to be a programme for the whole family.”
With ITV currently reaching more homes than Sky Sport, the show is predicted to be a huge success.
Free tickets have gone fast with limited availability left at lostintv.com . Recordings will take place at Epic Studios on this Thursday 10th May, Friday 11th May and Saturday 12th May.
