Filming In The UK: 2018 Update

Filming in the UK

Last week, The Knowledge and BBC reported that London-based film productions alone are generating multiple times their original expenditure for the local economy, due to a positive knock on effect.

A Film London study revealed that for every pound spent on production-associated council fees in the city per day, near to an additional 3 pounds is generated. Chief executive of the British Film Commission and Film London – Adrian Wootton – said: “While the headline figures are staggering, this research shows that there are clear grassroots benefits for local economies.”

Back in January, we highlighted some of the biggest UK-based film productions of 2017 and also those filming in the UK in 2018 (read more here). We can now add the following UK-filmed productions to the list:

  • Artemis Fowl (a fantasy film starring Dame Judi Dench and produced by Robert De Niro)
  • Spider-Man: Far From Home (starring Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Jon Watts)
  • Men in Black spinoff (directed by F. Gary Gray and starring Chris Hemsworth and tess Thompson)
  • Wonder Woman 2 (again, starring Gal Gadot, directed by Patty Jenkins)
  • Maleficent 2 (directed by Joachim Ronning and starring Angelina Jolie)
  • The Six Billion Dollar Man (starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Damian Szifron)
  • The One and Only Ivan (Thea Sharrock directs, with Angelina Jolie among the cast)
  • Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Quentin Tarantio directing, Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Dakota Fanning starring)
