Many of you will have been following our 2017 ‘Best of the Year’ countdowns over the last few days. Today we are very proud to announce our winners for 2017. (Look out for the music category winners to be announced this evening.)
Voted number 1 in our best non-music event category is World Wrestling Entertainment!
We were extremely excited to play host to the world’s largest wrestling promotion, WWE, in May 2017. The event was unprecedented for Epic, drawing huge (very vocal) crowds and inspiring a social media buzz to match. It featured appearances from a wealth of WWE stars, including Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, who told press at the time how excited he was to be in Norwich. We felt the same way about WWE coming to entertain Norwich from our studios.
Co-owner of Epic Studios, Linda Thursby, says the event, “brought the venue into an international realm”, while our Assistant Producer Alana Taylor told me: “It was an amazing experience to work closely with the WWE team. Seeing how they worked and having such a big production here was brilliant”.
As shared on our social media over the last few days, here’s a reminder of the runners up:
Number 2: Second place this year were Epic Studios favourites WAW (World Assoc. of Wrestling). Run by the Knight family, who are soon to be the subjects of 2018 Stephen Merchant and Dwayne Johnson Bio-pic collaboration – ‘Fighting With My Family’. Look out for it in September! You can catch our next WAW and ContendersEA in the new year, check our events pages for updates.
Number 3: In a very close third place – East Anglia’s largest MMA (Mixed Marshall Arts ) event ContendersEA. impressed crowds at Epic twice in 2017 and will return in February for more combat sport action.
Number 4: Epic Studios Norfolk Roller Derby events came in at number 4 for 2017, described by fans as “unique” and “exciting to watch”. We love something a bit different at the studios and this dynamic event has been a really popular one at the studios for several years.
Number 5: Talking of something a bit different! …Chris Eubank’s One Man Show was a popular and one-of-a-kind addition to the 2017 Epic Studios programme! Feedback on this rare event included delight in having such a legendary boxer in our midst …alongside enthusiastic approval of his open and honest discussion about encountering racism in the media industry.
Other events that were voted most-loved in 2017 were, UWCB (Ultra White Collar Boxing), OMG (Magic from Sean Goodman), The CAMRA (Real Ale) Awards and Shamrock Boxing.
See you for many more exciting events in 2018!
Happy New Year from everyone at Epic Studios.
